This is an unusual British Pattern 1856 sawback sword, made by Robert Mole of Birmingham, and issued to the pioneers within an infantry battalion. Dated 12/92 on one ricasso under a faint etched manufacturers mark. The other ricasso shows an acceptance stamp under a War Department broadarrow and Mole as the maker. In generally very good condition, with very good sawback, edge and point. The steel blade is straight and just lightly marked to the steel with some very light pitting. The brass crossguard is marked 1.1895, and M over 7.R.B. 8. Presumably 7th battalion Royal B??? sadly no scabbard.
