British No4 MkII* spike and scabbard, BEC made

This is a British made spike bayonet for fitment to the Lee-Enfield rifle no4 and all it's marks. Rather gruesomely known as the 'pig-sticker', this bayonet is a later war, two part No 4 MkII*. It is a variant of the MkII, and was made in two pieces rather than one, to assist in speed of manufacture. This example was made by the Baird Engineering Company of Belfast, and is marked No 4 MkII BEC N96, where N96 was their dispersal code, on the side, along with  an inspection stamp and broadarrow. Also marked with a partial forger's stamp. Baird made just over 100,000 of these bayonets from 1942 till 1944, making them the second rarest maker. Excellent blade and point with blacked socket, fitted into very good steel Mk1 scabbard.
