British Lee-Metford P1888 Mk2 bayonet, 1901 dated, 7 GOR stamped.

This is a British Pattern 1888 mk2 bayonet as fitted to the Lee-Metford and Long Lee rifles used by the British Army in the late 19th century.  The Mk2 differs from the Mk1 in that it has no hole through the hilt for a cleaning rod, and has the clean-out hole drilled through the pommel rather than the grips. Marked 10 '01 under the cypher of Edward VII above Wilkinson, London on one ricasso, broadarrow, inspection and bend test stamped on the other, and inspection stamps on spine of blade. Very good clean bright steel blade with perfect edge and point, good inspection stamped wooden grips, and nice clean pommel and crossguard, 7 GOR stamped on the former. Fitted into good sound leather scabbard, minor movement in throat, dated '06 and '18 to rear. An interesting piece of military history.
