British Lee-Metford bayonet and scabbard, N.R. 58 marked **SOLD**

This is the British Lee-Metford bayonet as fitted to the Lee-Metford rifle. This was a .303 calibre bolt-action rifle that was produced from 1884 until 1896 when it was replaced by the Lee-Enfield rifle no1. A short lived production life, but it did remain in service till after WW1. This bayonet is in very good condition with a straight bright steel blade showing only minor marks, nothing worth mentioning, excellent undamaged edge and point.  Grips are very good with sound brass rivets. There are many stamps on the ricasso, and a partial Royal Cypher. Lots of inspection and acceptance stamps with dates as late as 1905. Bend test and broad arrow mark over WD on the other side. Scabbard is complete and sound, though a lot of pitting in the steel as can be seen. An easy restoration though as the leather is fine, inspection stamped to the rear and the number 38 on the front? Of interest are the stamps N.R.58 (Northamptons?) and crossed out is 3 SR (Surreys?) on the pommel.  A great addition to your Lee-Metford rifle.
