This is the No.9, last of the line for the socket bayonet fitted to the Lee-Enfield no.4 rifle. The simple No.4 spike transformed into the elaborate no.7 knife bayonet with rotating handle, and then finished as a cross between the two, a knife bayonet without handle which served only one purpose. Modern bayonets have now returned to the dual purpose role of a useful knife as well as an extension to your rifle when you run out of ammo, or just fancy a bayonet charge! In excellent condition throughout with perfect point and edge on the heavily parkarised blade. Faintly marked on the socket top with Poole factory P in a circle with an even fainter date of 194?, and various inspection stamps. Very good scabbard, correct steel throat and no dents, dispersal code marked above frog-stud. Hard to find a better one.
