Australian issue Patt. 1907 Sanderson made bayonet and scabbard, 1918 dated
This is a Pattern 1907 bayonet for use with the Lee-Enfield rifle no1 mk3 or 3*, better known as the SMLE, issued to the Australian army. British markings on the ricasso show the Royal Cypher above 1907 as the pattern, a date of 3 '18 above Sandersons as the maker, and the other ricasso shows inspection stamps and bend test. On the crossguard it is clearly stamped with the Australian property markings of D (broadarrow) D with a small 2 for the 2nd Military District, with the Australian acceptance stamp of a broadarrow within a D stamped on the pommel. The full 17" steel blade is in very good condition, with good point and factory sharpened edge. Both wooden grips are complete and sound, good release button. The small round-frogstud scabbard, typical of the Australian scabbard variant, is in very good condition too. Throat and chape both nice and tight, marked Lithgow 1918 to the rear. A lovely piece of history to compliment any WW1 SMLE.
