This is a Remington made Model 1917 bayonet as fitted to the US Model 1917 rifle (often mistakenly called the P17) and the Enfield P14. These bayonets were also re-issued in WW2 to be used with the P14 and M17 rifles that armed the Home Guard units. This particular bayonet is in overall good condition, with a not unusual rough finish to the blade. Good edge and point, mistakenly marked 1918 on the blacked ricasso; Remington stamped some of their Model 1917 bayonets with 1918 as the year changed, when in fact this was the pattern not a date! making these 'wrong' ones very collectible. The other side shows the 'flaming bomb' and eagle's head motifs and US, for US military use. Good grips and release button, nice blacked finish to crossguard and pommel. The 'wire-hanger' US-issue scabbard is in similar good sound condition, with blacked MS marked throat and chape, both nice and tight. Jewell 1918 stamped to rear. An unusual bayonet in good original condition.
