American Remington Model 1917 bayonet and Maxim scabbard, wrongly 1918 marked

This is a Remington made Model 1917 bayonet as fitted to the US Model 1917 rifle and the Enfield P14. These bayonets were also re-issued in WW2 to be used with the P14 and M17 rifles that armed the Home Guard units. This particular example appears to be nickel plated, probably for parade use. In very good condition, very good blade with excellent edge and point. It has a rough finish that I have seen before, maybe from the forging process. Mistakenly marked 1918 on the ricasso, Remington stamped some of their Model 1917 bayonets with 1918 as the year changed, when in fact this was the pattern not a date! making these 'wrong' ones very collectable. The other side showing the 'flaming bomb' and eagle's head motifs and US, for US military use. Good grips and release button. The Maxim 'wire-hanger' scabbard is in similar very good condition, nickel plated GF marked chape and throat, both nice and tight. An very unusual bayonet in very good condition.
