Artillery brass shell cases
This is a 40mm Bofors Mk4 anti-aircraft shell case, dated 1956 on it's base along with many other stamps including the MOD broadarrow . The Bofors was developed in the early 1930's in Sweden and was used by both allied and axis powers during WW2, mainly as an anti-aircraft gun, but in the age of jet aircraft this role became less and less in the post-war years. The Bofors was accepted as Nato-standard in November 1953 during the Cold War and is still in use today. This 1956 dated case is a perfect example of that - familiar to many ex- military servicemen.
