Rumanian made Kalashnikov AKM Type 1 bayonet with scabbard and frog

This is a communist Romania made bayonet and scabbard, designed to fit the Russian Kalashnikov AKM assault rifle. A very useful tool, not only a good fighting knife, but also doubling as a wire-cutter when the blade is engaged with the steel scabbard. This is a Type 1, which came out in 1959 to fit the new improved AKM assault rifle, and was as revolutionary as the AKM itself. It was later improved further into the Type 2, which had a steel pommel rather than a plastic one, as the plastic was more susceptible to damage, and a fully plastic scabbard rather than a steel one. A steel scabbard was nice, but not ideal when the wire-cutters were used on an electrified fence, even with the rubber sleeve! Comes with unusual leather and webbing frog. In very good unissued condition, matching serial numbers to cross-guard and scabbard.
