Deactivated Lee-Enfield SMLE no1 mk3* Enfield made 1918 dated, mag cut-off, all matched serial numbers, Australian marked **SOLD**

This is the standard infantry rifle of the British Army and the forces of it's Empire during WW1, the  Lee-Enfield rifle no1 mark 3, made at the Enfield factory. The butt socket is clearly stamped with the Royal Cypher of George V, indicating military issue, the maker Enfield, date of 1918, and the model SHT.L.E. III*, with the * crossed out. ( A III* that has been converted back to III by the addition of mkIII features, like the magazine cut-off plate). The furniture is in very good original condition, complete and undamaged, except for the usual knocks, fitting and matching very nicely, and with brass butt-disc marked only with the letter N. The butt is further stamped with the WW1 style and WW2 style Australian acceptance stamps, and with a date of 5.40, showing this rifle probably served in both World Wars. The steelwork is also in very good condition, retaining nearly all of it's original blacked finish, with a few signs of minor pitting, and has matching serial numbers to breech, bolt, barrel, nosecaps and rearsight. Forestock not stamped. An original and unmessed with example of this iconic rifle perfect for the reinactor or collector alike, with a lot of history. Generally known as the SMLE mk3, this rifle cocks and dry-fires, has a detachable magazine and comes complete with correct  brass-ended  webbing sling. Five inert .303 rounds are included with more available seperately in the 'Inert Ammunition' section at £1.50 each. Deactivated in the UK with Certificate to UK specification.
