British Lee-Enfield No9 bayonet, scabbard and frog, vgc, 1949 dated **SOLD**

This is the No.9, last of the line for the socket bayonet fitted to the Lee-Enfield no.4 rifle. The simple No.4 spike transformed into the elaborate no.7 knife bayonet with rotating handle, and then finished as a cross between the two, a knife bayonet without handle which served only one purpose. Modern bayonets have now returned to the dual purpose role of a useful knife as well as an extension to your rifle when you run out of ammo, or just fancy a bayonet charge!  In very good condition, excellent point and edge with only minimal marking on the blade, probably due to damp in the scabbard during storage. Date 1949 on the socket, with P in a circle for ROF, Poole.Very good undented scabbard, and period webbing frog in khaki.
