Australian marked Lithgow made Pattern 1907 bayonet and scabbard, 1942 dated **SOLD**

This is a Pattern 1907 bayonet for use with the Lee-Enfield rifle no1 mk3 or 3* , better known as the SMLE, as used throughout WW1 and the first half of WW2.  Ricasso markings show 1907 for the Pattern under MA,(the code for the Lithgow Small Arms Factory in NSW, Australia), and a date of 9 '42. The other side shows broad arrows and bend test, and OA for the Orange Rifle Factory, Australia. The blacked steel blade is in very good untouched condition, with some minor patches of corrosion towards the tip that are hardly noticable. The cross-guard and pommel retain most of their blacked finish, pommel is stamped C73417.
Wooden grips are complete and sound though a little knocked, with good release button. The round-frog stud brown leather scabbard is also in very good condition, stamped Mangrovite '43, all stitching intact, and remains of green paint over the chape and throat. Chape stamped OA. A lovely piece of history to compliment any WW2 Aussie issue SMLE.
